Jun 23, 2026
Jackson County voted to participate in a joint Federal Bridge Investment Program application, led administratively by Lauderdale County, for a structurally deficient bridge on County Road 12. Staff said the consultant estimate is roughly $5,500,000 with a 25% local match (about $1.4 million); the commission voted to adopt a resolution to participate but noted reimbursement timing and potential overruns would be the county's responsibility.
The full story
Jackson County public-works staff described a bridge on County Road 12 that county engineers and the consultant consider structurally deficient. The bridge — built in 1975 and spanning the Paint Rock River — currently carries a lower posted weight and the consultant's estimate for replacement or major rehabilitation is about $5,500,000. Staff said the Federal Bridge Investment Program application would be a joint submission led by Lauderdale County and that the county would be responsible for a 25% local match if awarded.
