Commission discusses changing alderman term-limit language
Oct 13, 2025
Commissioners debated rewording term-limit language that currently bars an alderman from serving in the same ward for three years after leaving office; staff proposed switching the trigger to 'at least one general municipal election' and classifying part of the language as a ballot-term change rather than a clarification.

"So it's kind of a weird way of doing it, but does that work for everyone or..." staff asked as the commission considered splitting clarifications from substantive term‑limit changes.
