Washburn library reports rising loans, $10,000 Carnegie gift
The Washburn Public Library reported 24,732 physical checkouts in 2025, 13,572 electronic checkouts and a $10,000 Carnegie grant to support basement renovations; the director said city funding for 2026 is about $170,003 and thanked volunteers and county support.

Derek, director of the Washburn Public Library, told the city council on March 9 that total usage is recovering after a dip tied to street work, with "for total physical checkouts for the Washington Public Library in 2025, we had 24,732," and another 13,572 electronic checkouts. He said combining physical and electronic circulation gives more meaningful insight into community use of library materials.
