County approves elevator modernization and Negaunee Service Center parking rebuild
County commissioners awarded elevator modernization to Metro Elevator for $460,600 and approved a full reconstruction of the Negaunee Service Center parking lot to Oberstar, Inc. for $256,000, funded by grant and county reserves.

The board approved two county infrastructure projects during its Sept. 15 meeting. Facilities Manager Aaron Karlstrom said three county elevators require modernization to meet Michigan Elevator Code changes effective Jan. 1, 2028; three sealed bids were received and Metro Elevator was the low responsive bidder at $460,600. The board awarded the project 6-0.
