Hamlin board debates permanent versus trailer radar speed signs and data needs

Oct 1, 2026

Board members discussed options for radar speed signs — permanent posts, mounts on utility poles, or a trailer unit — weighing solar power, data collection capabilities and permitting requirements; the board asked staff to collect vendor information and sheriff's data before deciding.

The board discussed whether to acquire permanent solar-powered radar speed signs, mount units on existing utility poles or employ a trailer unit borrowed from the sheriff's department. The Chair said permanent signs can be mounted to posts or an existing utility vault and that the trailer provides detailed traffic data (counts, average speeds) that the town can use for enforcement or siting decisions.
