Library Director Gina Lawrence recommended that the commission appoint James Halstead to fill a four-year vacancy on the Chanute Public Library Board following Dean Parsons' decision not to seek another term. Lawrence said Halstead has teaching and accounting experience and is an active library user; the mayor appointed him with the commission's consent.
