Staff described a variance to allow a detached garage to encroach into the required rear-yard placement, noting code normally requires accessory structures to be set behind the farthest point of the home. The applicant's representative said the proposed location is the only feasible option because the rear area contains a pool enclosure, potable water well and drainage easement.
