Portage County staff outline 2027 groundwater study options, including metals and uranium screening
Sep 10, 2026
Committee reviewed planning for the 2027 countywide groundwater study: staff proposed retesting previously sampled wells, adding a metals package (including a uranium screen) for a subset, and using about $53,000 in county funds to target repeat sampling and trend analysis.
The full story
County staff (S2) presented options for the 2027 five-year county groundwater study. The proposal prioritizes re-sampling wells that participated in earlier studies (2017 and 2022) to build trend lines and to add targeted metals testing where appropriate. S2 said the county now has roughly $53,000 available and proposed inviting about 300 previous participants to be retested using a homeowner's package (~$78 per test) and a metals package (~$75 per test), which together would cost about $45,000 for that cohort.
