Planning commission postpones data-center and temporary-construction rules after heavy public comment
Oct 6, 2026
The commission heard an extensive package covering data-center standards (noise limits, low-frequency measurement, rooftop fan prohibitions, closed-loop cooling preference) and long-term temporary-construction rules, then voted to postpone final action to Oct. 19 to allow further refinement and outreach to utilities and developers.
The full story
Planning staff presented a multi-part package of text amendments focused on data centers and long-term temporary construction uses. Key proposed changes include codified public-records guidance (NDAs and FOIA), reduced property-line noise limits (industrial: 65 dBA day/60 dBA night; residential: 55 dBA day/45 dBA night), new low-frequency (dBC) monitoring requirements, a prohibition on rooftop fans unless acoustically attenuated and a prohibition (subject to governing-body direction) on evaporative (open-loop) cooling, favoring closed-loop systems to reduce evaporative water use.
