Floating sales tax projected to cut millage; administrator proposes 2‑mill increase but forecasts net decrease

Oct 6, 2026

Administrator Tamika Allen said the new floating local option sales tax (FLOS) will bring about $19.7 million in 2027 — equivalent to a 2.263‑mill reduction — and the administration nonetheless recommends a separate 2‑mill increase to the county M&O that would still leave a net decrease in the millage rate.

Allen explained that the FLOS approved by voters began collections Oct. 1 and the administration projects about $19,700,000 in FLOS revenue for 2027. "We are projecting to have about 19,700,000 come in from Floss collections for 2027 millage rate," she said, and added that this equates to roughly a 2.263‑mill reduction to the county maintenance and operations (M&O) rate.
