Jun 29, 2026
Staff described a failed 30-inch tile installation under a railroad crossing that allowed surface water to infiltrate and erode stone bedding; recommendations included mortaring gaps, installing an 8-inch dual-wall tile, and using debris cages. Commissioners discussed potential lane work and a motion to move drainage at a specific address.
The full story
A county staff member (S3) reported on a drainage problem where a 30-inch tile installed inside a 36-inch casing has deflected about three-quarters of an inch, creating a gap that allows water to penetrate and erode surrounding stone bedding. S3 described visible seepage, holes where water was surfacing and the presence of a perforated pipe: "What I believe happened is when the 30 inch tile was installed into 36 inch casing... it created just a slight gap at the very top where that casing and that pipe went," S3 said, and outlined steps the crew took to mortared and fabric-seal the gap.
