Council removes sunset, approves exemption for qualifying cemetery stormwater charges

The Fort Atkinson City Council voted 3–2 on Oct. 6 to strike a two-year sunset and exempt qualifying cemetery properties from ERU-based stormwater utility charges, a decision staff estimates will forgo about $13,000 over two years. Supporters said the measure relieves small, volunteer-run cemeteries facing financial strain; opponents argued it shifts costs to other ratepayers.
