Chehalis council advances Mixed Residential Commercial zoning update; second reading set
Council advanced an ordinance to repeal and replace chapter 17.55 and amend 17.78 to formalize a Mixed Residential Commercial (MRC) zone with storefront, parking and frontage standards; planning commission edits were incorporated and the second reading is scheduled for July 27, 2026.

The Chehalis City Council on July 13 moved forward on a package of zoning code amendments that would establish a formal Mixed Residential Commercial (MRC) zone and remove an obsolete Residential Urban Growth Area (RUGA) chapter. Staff told the council the package replaces interim guidance that allowed mixed uses and adds detailed standards for designated market frontage, storefront design, parking reductions, setbacks and transitions to nearby residential areas.
