Board delays decision on accessory-structure variance after application found incomplete
Aug 22, 2026
The board found the applicant's area-variance submission unclear about which addition would be removed and lacked consistent drawings; the board continued the public meeting and asked the applicant to submit an updated application and plans at least 10 days before the next meeting.
The full story
An application asking to convert an accessory building into an apartment and to request an area-variance (to reduce the 40-foot rear setback) was discussed, but the board concluded the submission was incomplete because it did not clearly show which addition would be removed or list the precise variance requested. The chair read the application aloud and noted the current record says the building sits 6.4 feet from the rear property line, and that removing an addition might yield approximately 10 feet; without explicit drawings the board could not determine whether the variance sought is for 30 or 34 feet.
