Jul 2, 2026
The Rules Subcommittee rewrote 121.03(1) clarifying that a motion to reconsider must be made before adjournment of the same session, can only be made by someone who voted with the majority, and is out of order while another motion is pending.
The full story
The subcommittee revised the text of Section 121.03(1) governing motions to reconsider. The rewritten rule specifies three points: (1) "A motion to reconsider a subject acted upon by the majority of council must be made before adjournment of that session of council." (2) "A motion to reconsider may be made only by a member who voted with the majority." (3) "A motion to reconsider is in order at any time, except when a motion on another subject is pending." These lines were recorded verbatim in the minutes as the clarified rule language.
