Residents press city on illegal fireworks and long-running nuisance at meat processor
At the open forum Lee Orton urged increased patrols and enforcement against illegal fireworks and asked whether Gary's Meats is connected to the sewer and complying with nuisance ordinances. Council said staff will follow up: police are citing illegal fireworks reports when possible and a beautification committee will send letters to properties flagged for code compliance.

During the open public forum, resident Lee Orton appealed to the council for stronger enforcement of illegal fireworks in restricted areas given the very dry conditions and the risk of wildfire. He recounted a recent incident of a youth riding into Hollow Park and lighting bottle rockets and asked whether the city would put extra patrol resources in place on restricted nights.
