Public asks questions about modest changes to county cell-tower rules

Jun 11, 2026

Before the data-center discussion the county briefly addressed proposed revisions to the cell-tower ordinance. Attendees asked about setbacks, disguising towers, whether sites were proposed and the county's ability to limit tower numbers; staff said there is no cap and that preferred-location status requires applicants to show why the site meets the ordinance.

At the start of the June 11 meeting county staff invited public input on proposed edits to the cell-tower ordinance. Residents asked whether any sites were already proposed (staff said only one near a trucking company had been discussed), asked how far towers must be sited from residences (the draft includes a 1,000-foot standard as discussed in the hearing), and asked whether towers can be disguised (staff said the draft already allows camouflage such as tree-shaped monopoles).
