The full story

SOS Director Nikki Edwards presented the organization's 2027 budget request and summarized year-over-year usage and services the regional nonprofit provides to Coffey County residents. Edwards said SOS maintains an office in Burlington and staffs crisis advocates who provide domestic violence, sexual-assault and human-trafficking services; she also described a child advocacy center that performs forensic interviews for prosecution, a supervised visitation center and prevention education in local schools. "We had over 600 services provided to your county neighbors in 2025," Edwards said, and she added that more than 1,000 people across the regional service area accessed SOS services last year.
