A motion to allocate 20% of SSUT funds immediately to the Road Department failed for lack of a second; commissioners instead voted to reschedule an August 5 work session to 2:00 p.m. to discuss additional road funding.

The full story

Commissioner Amard Martin moved to allocate 20% of Simplified Sales and Use Tax (SSUT) funds to the Road Department to begin immediately and continue thereafter; the motion failed for lack of a second. Commissioner Bobby Burch then offered a substitute motion to schedule the August 5, 2025 work session at 2:00 p.m. instead of 4:00 p.m. so the commission could discuss road-department funding. Commissioner Norman Pool seconded the substitute motion; Commissioners Pool, Charles and Burch voted in favor and Commissioner Martin voted against the substitute. Chairman Nathan Kitchens announced the substitute motion passed.
