Clerk's staff told commissioners that state rules require the county to pay for indigent cremations and that the board previously set the reimbursement amount by resolution in 2020. "The code says we have to pay for it, and then the resolution determines the amount," staff said, noting the current per‑case amount was set by a prior board and historical volume has been low.
