Select Board, Staff Clarify Indigent Burial Process and Single Municipal Plot for St. George Residents

During the public hearing on the general assistance ordinance, board members and staff clarified how the town will handle indigent burials and unclaimed decedents. Staff described notification rules and an instance in which a funeral home held an unclaimed body: "we had a resident of Saint George sitting on a shelf at the funeral home," a staff member said, and explained the town had located a single burial spot available for unclaimed local residents.
