Vernon County Health Department hires sanitarian, plans staff role split
The health department hired Macy Lien as sanitarian effective Sept. 8, 2026, plans to transition the current sanitarian/public health nurse toward a 75% nursing and 25% agent role, and accepted a new sanitarian job description.

The Vernon County Health Department announced Sept. 8 that Macy Lien has been hired to fill the sanitarian position and will start on Sept. 8, 2026; the department also extended a second offer to another candidate. Health Officer Amy Kleiber said the office is planning a staffing model that would have the current sanitarian/public health nurse (Katlyn Smith) shift to approximately 75% nursing duties and 25% agent duties as the department transitions to two full-time sanitarian staff.
