Town Administrator Trevor Aitken told the council that the United States Postal Service awarded a new delivery contract to a contractor from Missouri who is scheduled to begin service on Oct. 7. Aitken said the contractor's identity and the nature of the contract were not yet known and that the Thayne post office still lacks a permanent postmaster; he also said it was uncertain whether the current carrier, Stacy, would remain under the new contractor.
