Commission clarifies accessory‑dwelling and accessory‑structure rules; removes 10‑acre minimum for some divisions
Aug 25, 2026
Staff proposed UDO clarifications: one accessory dwelling allowed per parcel (attached or detached), accessory structures counted by combined gross floor area, removal of a 10‑acre minimum for future commercial/industrial divisions, and reduced sidewalk and landscape mandates in agricultural settings.
The full story
Staff told the commission that the UDO amendments clarify that a parcel may have either one detached or one attached accessory dwelling unit (not both), and that accessory structures should be measured by combined gross floor area (including multiple floors) so the total square footage of garages and sheds is capped relative to the primary dwelling. Staff also proposed removing a 10‑acre minimum site size in the commercial and industrial development standards to allow more practical land divisions where smaller parcels exist.
