Oct 20, 2025

Highway Superintendent Matt Romalia described multiple planned chip-and-seal projects and a Community Crossings grant application for roughly ten lane miles; he also raised concerns about low buggy-fee revenue and reported damage to the Nevins Covered Bridge. A vendor in public comment said courthouse windows ultimately need replacement, with sealing bids ranging from $50,000 to $68,000.

The full story

Matt Romalia, Parke County Highway Superintendent, reported to the commissioners that the highway department plans several chip-and-seal projects and will submit a Community Crossings grant request covering seven roads (about ten lane miles). Romalia said the Community Crossings formula has changed to roughly $1 million with lane-mile deductions and gave an example that a county with $300,000 in lane miles would effectively receive about $700,000 in grant funding under the revised calculation.
