St. Johns fire chief recommends updating 1990 code to 2021 International Fire Code
Fire Chief Douglas told the commission that updating from the 1990 BOCA code to the 2021 International Fire Code would address lithium batteries, mobile food‑truck inspections, radio communication, and other safety advances and could lower insurance costs and improve ISO ratings.

Fire Chief Douglas told the St. Johns City Commission on May 19 that the city’s current fire code, based on the 1990 BOCA code, should be updated to the 2021 International Fire Code to reflect modern building practices and equipment.
