Sheriff’s office urges GDOT study after crashes at SR‑85/SR‑74; county to forward request

At the June 4, 2024 Fayette County Transportation Committee meeting, Sgt. Kris Purkey of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said the county has seen an increase in crashes at the intersection of SR‑85 S and SR‑74 and attributed the majority of collisions to drivers attempting left turns. Purkey urged the committee to ask the Georgia Department of Transportation to perform a traffic study and proposed a left‑turn on green‑arrow phase to reduce those collisions.
