Commissioner calculates splash-pad water use; designers say system will not recirculate

Mar 24, 2026

Commissioner Jim Yahn estimated a sample operating profile would use roughly 14,000 gallons of water; JD Stone said the splash-pad system would not recirculate water and would rely on city water routed to sewer, and the control/LED load would be about 40 watts.

At the March 24 work session, Commissioner Jim Yahn ran a sample calculation for water use under a hypothetical operating schedule and said: "Water used would be approximately 14,000 gallons, because it's 60 gallons per minute." Yahn said the system can be programmed to run short cycles (30–60 seconds) and to include delays if water consumption becomes a concern.
