Council Member Demonstrates GIS Review Process; Highlights Past Cases Where Trees Were Saved

Oct 15, 2026

Council member Adam demonstrated how to use the town's GIS and archived packets to review past commitments and evaluate tree-removal permits; he used two cases (a contested 28-inch specimen and a preserved 39.5-inch post oak at Trinity Park/Lakeside) to show how research can influence council decisions.

The full story

Council member Adam gave a step-by-step demonstration of how to research a tree-removal request using Flower Mound's interactive GIS, archived zoning documents, and past meeting packets. Adam said he first looks for the zoning exhibit and the original packet to see whether a developer explicitly marked trees for protection during zoning approvals, and then walks the site or examines photos to check whether a tree now proposed for removal was previously identified as a protected feature. "No applicant is more environmentally conscious than they are when they're trying to get zoning," Adam said, explaining that applicants often promise protections at zoning and later seek to revise plans once zoning is approved.
