Lindsay Varnum, assistant director and youth services manager, said the library joined the Sustainable Library Initiative to ensure the expansion reflects environmental, social and economic sustainability. "We're starting at the library about really working to be more sustainable," Varnum said, and staff will use the certification process to inform building envelope, operations and landscaping choices.
