Chief seeks two license‑plate readers using opioid settlement funds; board approves purchase

Feb 7, 2025

Police chief asked trustees to authorize two Flock license‑plate readers funded from the township's opioid settlement proceeds (roughly $26,000). Trustees approved the agreement and also heard updates on deployment of body‑worn cameras and training/grant awards.

The full story

The police chief asked trustees to authorize an agreement with Flock Group Inc. for two automatic license‑plate reader (LPR) cameras, proposing to pay from the township's Ohio opioid settlement fund. He told the board there is about $26,000 in that account and that the purchase and subscription costs for two cameras plus the recurring service could be covered by those funds and future opioid settlement proceeds: "We have roughly about 26,000 in that account currently... and then annually for 2 cameras, it's $6,000 a year." The chief said LPRs would be configured for serious crimes (violent felonies or stolen vehicles) and emphasized auditing controls: access is time‑stamped and monitored.
