Jose Vargas, Laredo area engineer for TxDOT, briefed the MPO committee on multiple corridor projects and said the area office is managing 21 active projects. Vargas outlined schedules and contractor progress: the remaining three direct connectors at the IH‑35/loop intersections were awarded to Urban Infra Construction with preconstruction held and a mid‑November start anticipated for initial drainage work; US‑59 expansion work is ongoing and 359 widening and 255 rehabilitation projects are in construction with staged completions anticipated in 2027–2028.
