Developer presents data-center plan for Basin 162; board and residents press hard on water and contamination risks
Aug 6, 2026
A developer presented engineering studies comparing a previously approved 920-acre residential project with a proposed hyperscale data center campus; attendees pressed on water retirement, contamination controls and how claimed "savings" would be enforced.

Developer representative Russ Meads presented the proposed data center campus and engineering-based estimates of annual water demand, distinguishing potable use, one-time fills (fire systems), closed-loop cooling and landscape needs. Meads told the board the project's engineering summary estimates "70.41 acre feet for potable water use" for the whole campus and described a closed-loop, air-cooled system intended to avoid daily evaporative cooling use. "The total large building water use per year, is 51.45 acre feet annually," Meads said during the presentation.
