Eagan repeals local prohibition on mechanical amusement devices

Eagan, Minn. — The City Council on May 6 repealed City Code Chapter 6, section 6.3, removing language that effectively prohibited mechanical amusement devices in the city.
Staff explained that earlier code amendments in 2012 had eliminated licensing and zoning restrictions for amusement devices but that leftover language in Chapter 6 continued to ban the devices in practice. After review with the city attorney staff recommended full repeal of that chapter language because there is no legal or regulatory reason to retain it. Assistant City Administrator Eilig was available to answer questions.
The council moved and approved the repeal on a voice vote. No members of the public spoke on the item.
Ending: The repeal removes the remaining local prohibition. City staff will update the code and administrative materials to reflect the change.
