Eagan amends gambling code to follow state statute

Eagan, Minn. — The City Council on May 6 approved an ordinance amendment to City Code Chapter 5 to update gambling regulations and to defer to Minnesota state statute.
Staff explained the existing city code restricted lawful gambling to nonprofit organizations and required gambling areas to be separate from bars — language staff and the city attorney judge to be outdated and overlapping with state regulation. Assistant City Administrator Eilig (Aylig/Eilig) was present to answer council questions; staff recommended removing the restrictive local text and relying on state statute, which governs lawful gambling equipment, operator licensing and operations.
No members of the public spoke on the item. The council moved and approved the ordinance amendment by voice vote.
Ending: The city’s code will be updated to remove the more restrictive local language and to follow Minnesota statute regarding lawful gambling operations.
