City staff reported multiple fan-motor failures on a dehumidifier unit used by a city facility and asked the council to approve emergency replacement and a budget amendment.
Facility representative Stacy Smothers said two fan motors on the dehumidifier were “absolutely down” out of six; in June two motors had already been replaced. Smothers said the quoted prices reflected tariff-driven increases for equipment sourced from Canada and described two-motor and four-motor price points read into the record: in June two motors cost $18,524 (as previously replaced), two replacement motors quoted at about $19,197, and a four-motor replacement would total about $36,109. She described the request as an emergency because moving parts can break and cause additional damage if not addressed.
The mayor declared an emergency, and the council voted by unanimous consent both to consider the item immediately and to approve a budget amendment to cover the repair. Staff said the budget amendment was approved unanimously and that purchase orders would be executed to complete the emergency repairs.
Council action authorized staff to complete the emergency replacement and to carry out the associated budget amendment; staff will proceed to secure the motors and schedule replacement work.
