County authorizes engineering task order for Bridge 503 rehabilitation

Commissioners authorized a task order with United Consulting to design rehabilitation work on Bridge 503 at Auburn Drive.
Ben, county road superintendent, briefed the board on the bridge's condition and the proposed scope: removal of undermined concrete, riprap (rip-wrap) stabilization, deck replacement and guardrail upgrades. United's task order includes survey and design work, environmental and permitting, asbestos and US waters reporting and bidding documents; the task-order fee was presented as an hourly not-to-exceed total (about $101,000 in the packet), with the superintendent noting the final fee likely will be lower.
Ben said he had reviewed the task order with county staff (including the county engineer) and that funding is available in the road/bridge budget. After brief public-comment and a commissioner motion, the board voted to authorize United Consulting to proceed with the engineering services so the county can prepare the project for bidding and eventual construction.
Ben also noted the bridge had been identified in recent inspections as needing rehabilitation and said the county is working through recommended inspector priorities.
