Committee endorses letter supporting Transportation Growth Management work at mill site

The Estacada Traffic and Public Safety Committee voted unanimously to support a letter for the Transportation Growth Management (TGM) program related to planning for roughly 90 acres at the former mill site.

Committee members said the project envisions direct access to Highway 224 and an internal connection that would approach Sixth Avenue by the Marathon site. The committee discussed the need to ensure street and sidewalk connections, including routes for children who might live in future housing on the site.

City staff member Elena told the committee the area is zoned for riverfront commercial uses and that the TGM assistance would help align transportation planning with land-use and school connectivity needs. Committee member Karina moved to support the letter; Matt seconded. The motion passed 6-0.

Members said the committee’s support would be transmitted as a letter to the TGM program and incorporated into local planning conversations to make sure pedestrian and traffic connections are part of the mill-site planning.

The committee’s letter is intended to ensure the city’s transportation priorities are considered during planning for the development.
