IT director outlines $120,000 software-driven budget increase

The Information Technology director told the Sawyer County Administration Committee the department’s 2026 budget will rise by about $120,000 largely because of consolidated Microsoft product billing and scheduled renewals of several software-as-a-service products.
The director explained the county is consolidating Microsoft licensing and email billing into a single address space to simplify internal billing instead of charging separate departments. Several software packages face third-year renewals next year, producing a one-time spike, and increased costs for security and managed services are also a driver. ‘‘There’s a number of software packages that have 3 year renewals and, next year is the third year. So it's gonna be a spike due to that,’’ the director said.
Committee members asked for details; the director said he had already provided detailed budget materials to county administration for review and would supply further information on request. No formal vote or approval was requested at the meeting.
