Washington County officials reviewed a final jail and community corrections center capacity study and discussed project governance, scheduling and next steps during the board’s work session.
Erin Calvert, assistant county administrator, said Matrix Consulting completed the county’s jail capacity study and moved the draft to a final report included in the meeting packet. The packet also included proposed governance documents. Calvert said the study "did confirm that by the year 02/1955, Washington County will need additional jail bed and community correction center bed space," and noted the study’s findings are based on utilization, population and other factors included in the Matrix report. Calvert also said the study was completed under budget: $200,000 was set aside for the study, and invoices to date total just under $85,500. The board has appropriated $6,000,000 in the county’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) in the current fiscal year.
