Supervisor Rodoni recuses from closed session over Point Reyes Station property interest

Supervisor Rodoni recused himself from a closed-session agenda item at the Marin County Board of Supervisors’ special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26, saying he owns an interest in a property at 1555 Third Street in Point Reyes Station and would not join the board in closed session.

The recusal removed Rodoni from participation in the discussion or deliberations on that specific closed-session agenda item. President Sackett convened the board into closed session shortly afterward; when the board reconvened in open session at 9:24 a.m., the county reported there were no announcements out of closed session.

The recusal was announced on the record. During the meeting, Rodoni said, “I own an interest in the property at 1555 Third Street, Point Reyes Station, and do not join the board in closed session.” President Sackett then proceeded to close the public portion of the meeting and move into executive session.

County procedure typically requires recusal where a supervisor discloses a financial interest that could create a conflict, and the supervisor’s statement placed the disclosure on the public record. The board provided no additional detail about the closed-session item during the public reconvening and stated only that there were no announcements out of closed session.

The board’s announcement did not specify the subject or legal basis for the closed-session discussion; no votes or further actions related to the recusal were recorded in the public minutes of the meeting.
