On Sept. 16, 2025, the McLeod County Board of Commissioners authorized county administration to proceed with bid letting for a planned renovation of the county’s environmental services facility that includes elevator work intended to meet ADA requirements.
County administration told the board the project has been included in the budget and the motion authorizes the county to advertise and solicit bids; final scope, timeline and funding allocations will be determined later in the process. A county official said the bidding authorization allows for design tweaks during the procurement process.
Commissioners expressed interest in a full workshop before final project approvals so the full board can review the blueprint, total estimated costs and how services will change after renovation. The facility project was previously put on hold while county staff worked on other priorities, and an architect change delayed the schedule, officials said.
County staff told commissioners that available fund balances and fund reserves in the environmental services/solid-waste account are expected to contribute to project costs, but that any appropriation from those balances must be approved by county accounting as the bidding and contract process proceeds. The board voted to move forward with the bid letting.
Next steps: county administration will proceed with bid documents and record a future workshop and final appropriation request to the board before construction contracts are executed.
