HRA exploring energy-efficiency loans and partnerships with state and regional providers

HRA staff are pursuing partnerships and financing options to support energy-efficiency upgrades for existing and new housing, the authority heard. Jeff, the HRA director, said he has talked with the Center for Energy and Environment (MCEE), CIRTS and local utilities including Arrowhead Cooperative Electric and Simpa about loan programs and technical resources.
"MCEE actually does provide, different loans, low interest loans, the energy plus program," Jeff said, describing a program the director discussed with the group. He said MCEE and other organizations indicated they "work across the state" and would assist communities in the region. The director added he is continuing conversations with local banks while also pursuing specialized loan products and technical assistance that local banks may not offer.
Jeff said conversations are ongoing about rehab and new-construction opportunities and that local utilities have been contacted about partnership options. No loan commitments or local programs were approved at the meeting; staff will report back as discussions progress.
