Commission backs conditional use permit request for High Mesa wedding venue

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Oct. 5 to forward a favorable recommendation to the Board of Supervisors on a conditional use permit request to operate a wedding and event venue at 30446 East High Mesa Road.
Planning staff explained that the property "has had the same use permit in the past" and that conditional use permits do not transfer to new owners; the applicant therefore requested a new permit to reestablish the venue. The staff member told the commission, "The conditional use permits, when those properties are sold, they go away when to sell that property. So, they're here, they wanna operate this as that same wedding venue." Staff reported no opposition on record.
Applicant Savannah (as she introduced herself at the podium) told the commission she purchased the property ‘‘both as a residential and as a commercial enterprise’’ and asked to operate outdoor wedding and event services. She described the site as offering "spectacular views of the entire valley" and said drought conditions have complicated landscaping efforts.
A commissioner moved and seconded to send a favorable recommendation to the Board of Supervisors; the motion carried unanimously. Staff reminded the applicant that the Board of Supervisors will make the final decision and encouraged her to attend that hearing.
