County assessor: assessments published; appeals window opens with Oct. 14 deadline

County Assessor Eric Blair briefed the Executive Committee Sept. 17 that the assessor's office published assessment notices the week of Sept. 10 and 11 and that the deadline to file an appeal is Tuesday, Oct. 14. "We did publish assessments in the newspapers, the veil journal on September 10 ... and the Herscher pilot on September 11. The last day to file an appeal is gonna be Tuesday, October 14," Blair said. He noted the office has a long tradition of publishing in September and aims to complete board of review hearings and close appeals by the end of the year. Blair also said the office was short staffed for 20 of the first 30 weeks of the year but that remaining staff "stepped up" to meet deadlines. He described the submission process to the Illinois Department of Revenue for a certified tentative abstract and said he had received one publisher certification and awaited the other before filing electronically. No formal action was taken on assessment policy at the meeting; Blair opened the floor for questions and thanked staff for maintaining the office's schedule despite personnel shortages.
