District proposes phased boundary realignment at Eagle Bay, will hold public hearing Oct. 21

District elementary staff recommended a phased boundary realignment to address low traditional-English enrollment at Eagle Bay Elementary, proposing to transition current fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade traditional-English students to Canyon Creek Elementary over a three-year period (fourth grade in 2026, fifth in 2027, sixth in 2028). Doug Forsgren, an elementary director, said the primary concern prompting the study was low traditional-English enrollment and that the DLI program enrollment itself was not in question.

Forsgren said district outreach produced 83 digital comments with mixed perspectives; many comments supported the Eagle Bay DLI program, some suggested larger boundary realignments, and others proposed phased solutions to reduce disruption. The phased plan staff proposed would primarily affect new move-ins into the Eagle Bay area after the change; students currently enrolled in grades 4–6 at Eagle Bay would be allowed to finish there.

Ending: Staff scheduled a public hearing on the boundary proposal for Oct. 21 (board workshop notice said the hearing will be held at the district office). No formal board decision was made at the workshop; staff said they will present public-hearing feedback to the board and the hearing is the next step before any boundary action.
