ODOT rest-area projects progressing; West Broad Complex is a $90M phased construction effort

The Controlling Board approved a Department of Transportation item covering eight previously let projects, seven rest-area projects at various construction stages and the West Broad Complex, an approximately $90 million construction project.
Carrie Yoss, ODOT statewide facilities administrator, told the board seven rest-area projects are in different construction phases: Madison and Miami rest areas are expected to open at the end of the calendar year; Auglaize and Butler began construction over the summer and are slated to open next summer; Summit, Lake and Delaware projects will begin construction within about a month and are expected to be finished next calendar year. “These 8 projects, 7 of them are rest areas and the rest area projects are in various stages of construction,” Yoss said.
West Broad Complex: Yoss said the West Broad Complex project started in 2021, broke ground in 2023 and is scheduled for completion in 2027. ODOT said the complex is being phased to accommodate existing occupants; the agency described the project as a $90 million construction effort.
Board action: The item was approved with no objections. Senator Ingram asked for clarification about the meaning of “previous bienniums” in the item description; agency officials explained the projects were let in earlier budget cycles and are now moving forward with construction funding.
Next steps: ODOT will continue phased construction at the West Broad Complex and complete the rest-area projects according to the schedules described.
