Board selects construction managers for multiple 2023 bond projects; capital program advances on schedule

The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees on March 18 approved several construction manager at‑risk selections for projects funded by the 2023 bond referendum and heard a district capital improvement update showing multiple projects progressing on schedule.
Following the district’s two‑step selection process, trustees approved the recommended firms by voice vote. The board’s recorded results and the selection recommendations were:
- Teal Construction — selected as construction manager at risk (CMAR) for Bush and Powell Elementary gym additions and related safety/security upgrades (committee recommendation). Vote recorded 7–0. - Anslow Bryant — selected as CMAR for Giesinger and Reeves Elementary gym additions and renovations (committee recommendation). Vote recorded 7–0. - Anslow Bryant — selected as CMAR for Irons, Peet, York and Conroe ninth‑grade renovations and critical infrastructure work (committee recommendation). Vote recorded 7–0.
Planning & Construction director Mister Foster presented progress photos and schedules for major bond projects, including the Conroe High School renovation (front entry and parking work), Eisler and Campbell elementary schools (new construction scheduled for August 2025), the new intermediate on FM 1314 (opening August 2026), and the Grand Oaks junior high/ninth‑grade campus (structure and slab work; partial opening scheduled January 2027). Foster said Timber Mill High School foundations are complete and the project is on schedule for an August 2027 opening.
Safety and security upgrades remain part of the critical infrastructure scope at many campuses. Facilities staff said upgrades include secure interior circulation, electronic card readers on exterior doors and additional exterior cameras to improve campus perimeter monitoring.
Trustees also received an update from Risk & Safety on external intruder detection audits. Mister McCord said 51 campuses had been audited with 48 showing no findings (94% without findings); one campus had a finding and corrective action is in progress. He said the district will share details of that finding in closed session and with the district safety and security committee.
The selections and capital updates were noncontroversial and advanced the district’s construction timetable for new and renovated campuses.
