SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Nature Conservancy on Oct. 5 demonstrated a redesigned Functional Flows Calculator that the organization said standardizes quantification of the California environmental flows framework’s functional‑flow metrics, adds visualization tools and offers an API and downloadable code for batch processing.
Bronwyn Stanford, a scientist at The Nature Conservancy, showed the updated tool to the Environmental Flows Work Group. “The functional flows calculator quantifies each of the functional flow metrics for each year for an input time series,” Stanford said, describing how the calculator uses daily flows to produce year‑by‑year metrics and a summary alteration assessment.
