Commerce council adopts comprehensive plan after year-long process

The Commerce City Council adopted a comprehensive plan on second reading at its Aug. 19 meeting, concluding about 12 months of public engagement and planning work.
City staff presented the final plan and said the planning and zoning commission had reviewed the draft and recommended approval with edits. “This has been a labor of love that we've been working on for the past 12 months, and it's good to reach the finish line,” a city staff member told the council.
Staff said the planning and zoning commission's comments and the advisory committee’s input were incorporated into the final document presented for a second reading. The mayor opened a public hearing before final adoption; only one speaker — the same resident who earlier addressed vehicle-registration enforcement — raised a separate concern about data and breach risk later in the meeting but did not object to the comprehensive plan itself during the hearing. The council closed the public hearing and, after a motion and second, adopted the plan on second reading.
Staff and commissioners thanked the planning and zoning commission and the advisory committee for their work on the document. The plan will guide land-use and policy decisions going forward, and staff said the plan incorporated the commission’s recommended edits.
